Exciting improvements for Ning users

Ning is a great way to set up a niche social network, pretty much on the fly. These networks look great and are pretty customisable and flexible. A great example of a nicely implemented Ning network is Huddlemind (check it out if you haven't already and are interested in "collaborative learning, new teaching methodologies, and organizational development through education". Anyway, I just watched this video which reveals a couple more improvements to Ning which make such a big difference:

I think the growth will be in the use of smaller, more focused, niche social networks that cater to a particular interest, hobby or vocation. These smaller sites will allow like-minded individuals and groups to connect, exchange ideas and receive genuine and useful support.

These kinds of sites will also be attractive to advertisers as they get targeted demographics to spend their online advertising budgets on.

Thanks to sites such as ning, anyone can start a niche social network about anything. There's also a search engine to help find niche social networks that lists thousands of networks for a whole range of subjects, http://findasocialnetwork.com

I "discovered" Ning shortly after I was diagnosed with diabetes in 2006. I found the TuDiabetes.com community very useful in helping me cope with my new illness. I got to know the founder of TuDiabetes, Manny Hernandez, shortly before he joined the staff of Ning full time as a Comunity Advocate. Manny helped me start a social network for fibromyalgia sufferers ( http://fibromyalgia.ning.com ) . I think Ning has great potential as a platform for building communities.
