Web/Tech iMac range moves to Core 2 Duo and new iMac launched

Thu, September 7, 2006 at 16:53 Apple has moved its iMac range across to Intel's new Core 2 Duo chips:
The iMac family now includes models with 17-, 20-, and stunning 24-inch widescreen displays. And every model features the new Intel Core 2 Duo processor — with speeds ranging from 1.83 GHz to 2.33GHz. The new processor delivers up to 50% more performance than the previous 20-inch iMac. It also doubles the amount of L2 cache, the twin cores sharing 4MB between them.(2) The result? Turbocharged performance, making it easier — and more fun — than ever to work with digital photos, movies, music, and the web.
To add to this boost in power, Apple also released an even bigger and more powerful iMac - the 24-inch iMac. According to MacWorld:
The 24-inch iMac features a 24-inch widescreen LCD display with a 1920-by-1200 pixel resolution that offers 30 percent more screen real estate than the 20-inch model. In addition to the new processor, the 24-inch iMac also includes 4MB of shared L2 cache, 1GB of 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM memory, a 250GB Serial ATA hard drive, NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT graphics with 128MB of GDDR3 memory and a SuperDrive.
There are a number of built to order options for the new iMac 24-inch that can make this baby a real powerhouse. I am drooling already and looking forward to some pricing here in South Africa. I have been looking for an excuse to migrate fully to a Mac and convert my old PC into an Ubuntu machine.
