Web/Tech HP’s new CEO steps up to the plate

Fri, April 1, 2005 at 8:05 News.com has reported that Hewlett Packard's new CEO, Mark Hurd, has not ruled out changes which could include spinning off HP's lucrative printer business.
"I received no preconditions in accepting the job," Hurd said. He
officially takes up the post Friday after two years as chief executive
at NCR.

"I see a company that is fundamentally strong," Hurd said. "But it's clear the company is not performing to its potential."
News.com has a fairly extensive review of Hurd's appointment. Some interesting tidbits include his pay package ($2 million signing bonus and a $1.4 million salary for taking the helm) and his reputation as a turnaround artist.
