Reduced Size MMC cards for Nokia 6630

I did something silly yesterday afternoon.  I went on a bit of a buying spree and, in addition to Logitech speakers to replace the pair I blew, I bought a 256MB RS-MMC for my Nokia 6630.  The only problem is that my phone doesn't pick up the card at all.  I returned it to the shop I bought it from and they are trying to work out what the problem is.  In the meantime I have done a little research and it turns out (and I did know this), the Nokia 6630 works with a DUAL VOLTAGE (1.8v) reduced size multimedia card and not the normal reduced size multimedia cards which run at somewhere around 2.7v to 3v.

It seems that a number of people have this problem (based on searches that bring people to this site) so here are a few links which may be helpful:

Apparently, Samsung has manufactured a range of dual voltage RS-MMC cards.  They put out a news release in March 2004.

The bottom line is that you should be careful when you buy a RS-MMC because it may not work.  Check it is a dual voltage card first and that it will work in your Nokia 6630.  This applies to all phones that use memory cards - make sure you are buying the right one for your phone.  You don't want to wind up with an expensive card you can't return and have no use for.

Nokia 6630

Since my earlier post I did a little digging around and it seems that the Nokia 6630 is an excellent phone. It is basically a pretty good upgrade on the Nokia 6600 with a whole host of new and improved features.

Hi, thanks for that info, however i have a new 6630, with the original 64mb Rs-mmc card, works fine for a short while, but then has problems accessing the card. I have looked on other websites to see if this is a common problem, and i have found that some are experiencing this, however i have not seen a solution.

So if anyone can give some insite on to this, whether it is a model problem, or the 6630 in general, i can go and get a refund! Unless it can be sorted, as it is a wonderful phone

Thanks
Kiran

Im also a proud but also disapointed new owner of the 6630. after 3 weeks, "memory card corrupted" came out and it refuses to be formatted. So i go out and look for a replacement. Guess what, none available here in the philippines until who knows when, not even in the NOKIA centers! So as of this writing im stuck with the 10mb phone memory. My question is: why does Nokia come out with a super phone and limit its own capabilities (high res cam, etc. with only a 64MB?)with a rs-mmc thats not even commercially available and not even reliable

There seem to be quite a few problems with the memory cards and the 6630s. I don't know why these problems are occurring, unfortunately. I will hopefully have a chance to do some digging around and if I uncover anything, I'll be sure to post it straight away!
