Thoughts about video blogging
I just recorded two videos which I posted on blip.tv and on Seesmic. I won’t go into much detail because I’d like the videos to speak for themselves. The conversation that sparked these videos is on Sue Rutherford’s blog. Start there and then continue here …
I then went along to Seesmic and posted this video as a comparison of the two services. The process of publishing the first video was considerably more drawn out than posting the Seesmic video. I first recorded the video in iMovie, started to export it as a reasonably big mp4 video file, stopped that and exported it as a smaller video file, re-encoded it as a mp4 file again and then uploaded it to Blip.tv where it now resides (well after two failed attempts to upload the video to Viddler).
The Seesmic video below took about 30 seconds longer than the video duration to record and post and I don’t think the video quality is much worse …

Seriously though, I dig the format. It can be a bit dull watching myself but there is scope to work on that. I'll keep working on it.

Firstly: loved the "face for radio" comment.
Secondly I'm not sure what one can offer different via a vlog as opposed to a blog. Obviously it's more visual but if you need to demonstrate something you can always embed a video in your writen blog.
The thing is, the web is becoming more focused towards video but in my mind that's somewhat dumbing it down.
The truth is that I would have rather read your opinions or listened to them as a podcast because ultimately (and no offence Paul) staring at you is slightly... well.... dull.
I think vlogging has potential, I'm just not sure where yet.

The video takes a little while to load, oddly. At least the interface takes a few seconds to load up. Once it does that you can play the video.

I think a lot of (local) people are going to go into vlogging ... and I'm sure there could be some good results if it's done properly and bandwidth is not an issue.
I won't dismiss the idea for myself just yet, but hells it seems VERY daunting. Not sure if it's up my introvert alley =)
Seesmic sounds interesting but I think I'm being stupid - how do I actually view your video? There's no "play" button - can I only see it by creating an account or what?
