I wouldn't have thought that the hackers necessarily had a specific political motive. Many people hack just to see whether it can be done, and take a thrill out of being widely noticed. It's like spray-painting arbitrary graffiti on the wall of a skyscraper.

Hi Karen

I would certainly make for an interesting story if it was from someone within the ANC. I was thinking along the lines of the Wikipedia vandalism (the AIDS in SA article) when I saw this notice. It need not be "official" ANC action but merely a supporter who isn't too keen on any opposition to the ANC.

The ANC's supporters can be a little intolerant of any criticism or opposition to the party line ...

Hi Paul, I don't think Helen Zille's important enough to the ANC to hack her website. And cyberstuff, that's not their style.

The DA may be the official opposition, but the ANC has more than a 70% majority. At present the ANC is too busy with its own internal stuff, I really think Ms Zille's website is pretty low down on their list.

It's a pity because I really applaud her for being the most media savvy politician and for really getting involved in the web and in new media.

I would think it was just someone making mischief, maybe who also wouldn't mind if it was conveniently blamed on the ANC.
