Revver: a cool alternative to YouTube and others?

I was chatting to Heather the other day about putting up the video from the recent visits by Larry Lessig and Jimmy Wales and she mentioned using Revver as a platform as an alternative to YouTube (due to duration issues) and Google Video (Zoopy also came up as an option!) so I decided to head over to Revver and try it out and I found this:

Do you use Revver? What do you think of Revver in the context of other video sharing sites around?

Ah, yeah. The N95 is purported to have great video. Our default video dimensions after transcoding are 480x360, and our video quality is generally considered top shelf, so I think you'll be pleased with the way we handle your video files.

Hey Jason

Thanks for your comment. I really enjoy using your service so far. I like the revenue share bit and the use of CC licenses (our content is licensed using CC licenses). I actually plan on doing more video when I get my Nokia N95 with its 640x480 video.

Oh no! I'm sorry you happened to stop by Revver while our IT Monkey was passed out on the job. We keep our uptime over the 99.9% mark, so this was unfortunate timing indeed.

The one thing I'll take the time to say for Revver, is that we're pretty universally considered to be the site that pays the most, and pays most fairly. We share 50% with video creators, and we leverage Creative Commons licensing to make sure the creator is not just well paid, but well protected.

If these are things that are important to you -- and they're not important to all video creators -- we may be the best option. If not, we'll look forward to seeing who you choose and what we can do to improve our game.

I like Revver okay, but I like Metacafe better. They also pay for videos but based on views, and they have a much larger audience as well. Just my 2 cents. :-)

Hey Jason

The videos haven't been uploaded anywhere as far as I know. Ultimately you'll get them if I have anything to do with it.

At the same time, I am enjoying my experiments with Revver and Vimeo. There are some nice little things on both sites which take standard video sharing a step or two further and which distinguish them.

Paulus! (and Heather)

I thought I felt my ears burning. You know what my answer's going to be here :)

In the true spirit of Web 2.0, ubuntu and general stick-together-ness, Zoopy's your only real alternative. Besides being able to speak Afrikaans and know the frustrations of driving behind taxis, we do our best to respond to comments/feedback/requests with real changes as soon as possible. You can't say the same for Revver.

So let us know when you migrate over. We'll send you something special to welcome you home :)
