When is it too much?

I have a poll going on chilibean where we ask whether we are posting too much on the site. If you are a chilibean subscriber or visitor, please head over there and vote. I have my own views about how much we are posting on the site mainly because I am doing the majority of the posting there (for various reasons) but I am curious what people thing generally.

Does a very active blog put you off? I actually feel bad if I don’t publish a new post every day to my various blogs. There is so much stuff out there to talk about. Is less more or doesn’t it bother you how much stuff comes out because you skim through your feeds anyway?

  • I think it's a question about quality over quantity.

It's true that there are so many different conversations going around on the web. Most people now days don't have the time to even go through feeds, let alone visit blogs. Lately I've been appreciating/spending more time reading through blogs and feeds that have short and punchy posts.

It's easier to digest and it gives me more time to read more posts and even contribute to the discussion.

I've seen people post for the sake of posting, not taking into account what the readers appreciate or what the blog says it's about. I'll be starting a blog of my own soon, so I hope that I'm taking my own advice to heart.

  • I don't know, Tertia. On one hand if there is more content being published to the blog people might be distracted from earlier posts and won't start talking about anything in particular. On the other hand, the most posts that are published the more entry points there are for new conversations.

  • I also sometimes wonder I post too much. I would post even more but I am scared people would get sick of it. Good question. Think I will ask the same on my blog.

A secondary question is: Does lots of posting 'dilute' the impact of each individual blog post. Will it mean too many conversations at once?
