A little disappointed …

March 14th, 2007 Leave a comment Go to comments

Tertia sent around this email to a couple bloggers this morning.  I think her email is fair comment in light of the controversy over the 2007 SA Blog Awards and she gave me permission to republish it here:

Hello guys

i know i am a big girl, and i know i am hormonal, but i have been really disappointed and annoyed at how whingey and whiney and moany the SA blogging community have been.

All (some) people seem to do is whine and moan about every thing. The 27 dinners, the blog awards blah blah blah. Ok, ok, you can’t please all the people all the time, but why can’t we at least try and see the positive?

And then, when something really great and positive happens to one of us, one of our little group of local bloggers (I am talking about been short listed as a Blooker prize finalist), hardly any one blogs about it. it is making international headlines, this is a big deal! Can’t believe the names on that list – Frank Warren, Seth Goldin, the guys from Daily Kos! http://lulublookerprize.typepad.com/lulu_blooker_blog/2007/03/the_2007_shortl.html

I think this is huge for SA blogging. We should be standing up together and supporting each other, not this infighting and factions.

I dont want a ‘well done’ from any one, i want people to talk about it on their blogs. To say "woo hoo, go South Africa!!" See what we are capable of, dont underestimate the SA blogging community.

We are quick to moan, but slow to acknowledge and support

I’m disappointed, really I am.

and yes, I know i am a girl

… having a John Lennon moment …

  • I was tired and wired and typed in the wrong address - sorry. My blog is at www.protocolinpractice.blogspot.com

And I don't know how to change it here on your blog - I click change, but nothing happens.

    Thanks for the welcome Paul.

  • Hi Karen

Welcome to blogging. The thing is, you are the kind of person efforts like the Blog Awards are aimed at in the sense that they are meant to generate awareness of blogs and other new media and to encourage people who are not part of the geek/jeek/A-list blogger crowd to start blogging.

Glad to see you around! By the way, I just tried to visit your blog and it wasn't found.

  • I'm new to the blogging scene, just put up a website and plunged in .Immediately I felt intimidated by the atmosphere of the cliques. It was the racists/negative propagandists on the one side and the techie/in-crowd on the other.

Tertia is right, I knew about the award and didn't put it on my blog - I've done so now and will be rooting for her all the way.

  • At the risk of some shameless self-promotion, I blogged about her progress on chilibean at http://www.chilibean.co.za/2007/03/12/and-terti...

  • Is it not interesting that same group keep coming up when it comes to the controversy?

I agree with tertia that someone should have blogged about the Booker thing but, to be honest, I didn't even know about it.

However, this SA Blog awards is serious because it makes us all look mickey mouse, not just those involved.
