HP recognises Firefox!

Well, it is a good day indeed! Spreadfirefox.com has reported that HP have recognised Firefox and are intent on incorporating it into their systems. The post quoted the following extract:

In Autumn of 2004 we have seen a dramatic increase in customer usage of the Mozilla/Firefox browser on our Web site. Mozilla has positioned their Firefox browser as a more secure, faster tool for browsing the Internet. Firefox has received a lot of visibility in the press, and this is contributing to the rapid conversion rates in our user population.

In order to support our customer’s efforts to better control their online experiences (through the use of browser choice, security related issues and speed) we need to ensure that all pages will successfully render in this tool. To fail to do so would be a conflict with our Total Customer Experience (TCE) goals.

Effective immediately, HP.com will formally adopt the Firefox browser as a standard browser.

This can only be the beginning. HP is one of the top PC manufacturers and now that they support Firefox, it can only do wonders for the little guy. There have already been in excess of 12 million downloads of the Firefox browser since version 1.0 was launched on 9 November. Go Firefox, Go!

Hot or Not?

Well, I am a late arrival to this addictive web site and it has been quite an experience. One this for sure, girls who show a little cleavage almost always get higher ratings. Sites like these remind me that as much as us guys believe girls are no match for our manly ways, the truth is that they often have the upper hand when it comes to manipulating the drooling sex. Take this young lass below as an example of where guys tend to lose it altogether. We have no idea who she is and what goes on in her head or what is in her heart and yet she probably attracted a rating of over 9 on the Hot or Not scale or 1 to 10.

When it comes to the Battle of the Sexes, us guys are gonna lose …

Star - Bride jilted by SMS

In an article titled “Star - Bride jilted by SMS”, The Star published a story about a bride who was ditched at her wedding by her fiance by sms. This article really just illustrates how we are losing real contact with each other even as our technology makes it easier to reach each other. We sacrifice meaningful personal contact in favour of new ways to be in contact in faster and more efficient ways.

Playboy does iPod

Great, now my number one “would love to have” gadget has been targetted by Playboy! There are some things you would like to remain porn-free and just plain cool and clean and the Apple iPod is one of those things. I was skipping through a couple blog links I have and saw this story on Fleshbot about Playboy’s newest offering to those fortunate enough to own the new iPod Photos. In Playboy’s words -

Playboy has harnessed this latest digital innovation so some of our sexiest girls next door can be added right to your portable player. Simply download this free image gallery to your desktop from Playboy.com and upload it to your iPod Photo handheld device. If iPod Photo is “a feast for the eyes” on its own, it’s a veritable ocular orgy now that Playboy.com has dialed up the heat a few notches.

Can’t say I am too excited about this development because it somehow taints the whole iPod experience for me a tad. I know this is all a little prudish for me (and there are times when the odd bit of porn can be handy - no pun intended) but, as I said above, some things should be left alone in their clean and cool state and untainted by the porn industry.

Brand new day

Well, it is Saturday and the sky is blue, the birds are chirping and I have a toothbrush in my mouth while my girlfriend slowly wakes up sufficiently to get out of bed. This weekend is the weekend of the Big Move. G, my girlfriend of over a year, is moving in with me! Big step for me, historically slightly commitment phobic (which man isn’t, you girls may ask).

So after we finish packing G’s stuff into boxes in preparation for tomorrow’s actual move, we are heading off to Sandton City for a very late Christmas shop and to get me some new sunglasses to replace the aging and failing pair I bought from my sister a couple years ago.

Upgrades …

Quiet streets

Well, it is now past that magical date of 16 December and it seems like most of Joburg is on holiday and off the roads. It took me half my usual time to get to work today, which was a pleasure. I realised that I don’t have that much of an issue not going away this year. It is quiet in town and peaceful. It almost feels like a holiday town, to boot! I am almost certain that most of the usual holiday spots are packed and not at all conducive to a relaxing holiday (unless you make a point of hiding out somewhere).

That being said, I am still at work and have stuff to do.
